ALIGARH, August 11: National Academy of Letter – Sahitya Academy, in collaboration with the Aligarh Muslim University will organize a one-day national Symposium on eminent Urdu poet Kaifi Azmi on August 19, 2015 at Kennedy Auditorium at 10 am. Distinguished film personality, Javed Akhtar, will inaugurate the Symposium titled “Kaifi Azmi – A Life in Creative Pursuits”, and it will be presided over by the AMU Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. Zameer Uddin Shah.
According to Prof. Shafey Kidwai, Director of the Symposium, Ms. Shabana Azmi, Muzaffar Ali, Film Director, AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor, Brig. S. Ahmad Ali and Dr. K. S. Rao, Secretary Sahitya Academy will be the guests of honour. Professor Irtiza Karim will deliver the keynote address.
Prof. Kidwai said that the inaugural session will be followed by two academic sessions in which Professor Ali Ahmad Fatmi, Professor Asim Siddiqui, Prof. Saghir Afrahim, Prof. Sami Rafique, Dr. Ajay Bisaria, Dr. Seema Sagheer will present papers. The AMU also organizes an exhibition of Kaifi Azmi’s books at the Maulana Azad Library. Vice Chancellor Gen. Shah will inaugurate the Kaifi Azmi Collection at the library and a catalogue of books donated by Kaifi Azmi will also be released on the occasion.
Distinguished poets including Chandrabhan Khayal, Jamuna Prasad Rahi, Mahtab Haider Naqvi, Raeesuddin Raees, Shahabuddin Saqib, Siraj Ajmali, Rashid Anwar Rashid, Owais Jamal Shamsi, Mushtaq Sadaf etc. will sit together to pay tribute to Kaifi Azmi at the Arts Faculty Lounge at 4:30 pm. Javed Akhtar will preside over the Poetic Meet.
